Our 316L stainless steel pipe complies with:
ASTM A213 TP316L – Seamless stainless steel tube standard for high-temperature and corrosive environments
GB/T 14976-2012 – Seamless stainless steel pipe for fluid transport
Every pipe undergoes solution annealing and hydrostatic testing at 12 MPa for 30 minutes, ensuring leak-free performance under seawater pressure. Its resistance to chloride ions (30,000 ppm) and verified pitting potential ≥ +400 mV meet seawater desalination requirements.
For most piping applications, 316L is the preferred specification. The key difference is carbon content:
| Property | 316 | 316L |
|---|---|---|
| Max carbon (%) | 0.08 | 0.03 |
| Sensitization risk after welding | Moderate | Negligible |
| Corrosion resistance (welded joints) | Lower | Higher |
| ASTM standard (seamless pipe) | A213 TP316 | A213 TP316L |
| Typical application | Machined parts, non-welded assemblies | Welded pipe systems, marine, chemical |
316L's low carbon content prevents carbide precipitation at weld heat-affected zones — the main failure mode in chloride-exposed piping. If your system requires welded fabrication or will be exposed to seawater, acidic media, or chloride concentrations above 5,000 ppm, specify 316L. At equivalent wall thickness and schedule, mechanical strength is virtually identical at ambient temperature.
We supply 316L stainless steel seamless pipes in:
Outer Diameter: 10–219 mm (tolerance ±0.5%)
Wall Thickness: 1.5–12 mm (tolerance ±5%)
Length: 6 m / 12 m fixed lengths
Surface treatment options include outer wall pickling (No.1) / 2B and inner wall electropolishing (Ra ≤0.8 μm). Anti-rust coatings are available upon request.
This ensures that each order is delivered with the required specifications for seawater desalination systems and offshore engineering projects, without deviation.

Walmay will help match the right stainless product form and specification for your application, confirm quantities and packing needs, and provide requested documents based on order requirements.
