303 Stainless Steel Bar

3-30mm diameter, sulfur content improves machinability, automatic lathe parts

303 stainless steel bar (1Cr18Ni9S) is an austenitic free-machining stainless steel. By adding sulfur (S≥0.15%) and selenium (Se), its machinability is significantly improved.

  • Excellent Machinability

Sulfide inclusions ensure chip-breaking performance and surface finish Ra≤1.6μm.

  • Non-Magnetic

Non-magnetic in solution state, ideal for electronics and medical applications requiring magnetic compatibility.

  • Moderate Corrosion Resistance

Cr (17–19%) and Ni (8–10%) provide corrosion resistance in normal atmospheric environments, superior to carbon steels.

FAQ

What is 303 stainless steel best known for?

303 is known for excellent machinability among austenitic stainless steels.

What applications commonly use 303 stainless steel bars?

Precision machined parts, fasteners, shafts, and fittings.

How does 303 compare to 304 stainless steel?

303 machines more easily, while 304 offers better corrosion resistance.

Is 303 stainless steel suitable for welding?

Welding is possible but generally not recommended due to sulfur content.
